Dad hats

An ongoing series of ceramic sculptures that explore identity, especially in regards to Americana (i.e. tourist souvenirs) and the demand for the personal brand and/or commodifiable identity. Each of these ceramic dad hats is built by hand, giving each one a shape as unique as the personality signaled by its design. As I create these I’m thinking about kitsch, nostalgia, and also using the iconography of a dad hat to explore my own queerness.
